What a month! It was all about the live music and celebration this July in South Main. The Keller Williams- headlined Collegiate Peaks Music Festival brought epic talent, production and crowds to Buena Vista. Check out the photo gallery here.
Earlier in the month, the grassroots efforts of South Main homeowners made possible a fabulous community gathering for Pickin' and Paddlin' in the Park over July 4th weekend. Check out the photo gallery here.

We're excited to announce that beginning next week, South Main will bring the Cedar Street Cottages to downtown BV, 12 beautiful reclaimed homes originally used as emergency housing after hurricane Katrina. Read the full story: Reclaimed Cottages Become Mountain Town Infill. We're also thrilled to have two outstanding musical events coming to the South Main Town Square this month! On July 2nd and 3rd, the South Main HOA presents Pickin' and Paddlin' in the Park, a FREE 2 night show featuring the high energy bluegrass of Whitewater Ramble and Oakhurst. Join us!
Then from July 28th-30th the Collegiate Peaks Music Festival returns to South Main, featuring national acts from Keller Williams to The Motet, Kyle Hollingsworth Band and Elephant Revival. Join us for a weekend of celebration unlike any before here in BV!

This was the 4th year that we have organized the BV Pro freestyle kayaking competition, and 2011 was the best event yet! The pros entertained with the highest scoring rides ever thrown, and we were excited to have a strong turnout for our first year of amateur competition. Check out the photos from the open classes. Coming off of a successful Paddlefest weekend, we're thrilled to announce that on July 2nd and 3rd a group of South Main homeowners have come together to bring you (for free!) Pickin' and Paddlin' in the Park, featuring the high energy bluegrass of Whitewater Ramble and Oakhurst!
Then from July 28th-30th, the Collegiate Peaks Music Festival Returns to South Main with headliner Keller Williams! Other national acts include The Motet, Drew Emmitt of Leftover Salmon and The Kyle Hollingsworth (of The String Cheese Incident) Band.

In honor of Earth Day we're excited to announce that the Sundance building is not only looking beautiful but has also installed South Main's first solar panels!
Looking forward, May is always an exciting month in Buena Vista, with the river rising and events like Paddlefest and the BV Pro-Am Rodeo drawing thousands to town at the end of the month. Come on out for this amazing weekend of instruction, competition and sales celebrating our beautiful river and whitewater park.

We're thrilled to announce the soft opening today of Mountain Bohemian, a lifestyle boutique located at 900 South Main Street! It is owned by Keith and Evelyn Baker, also owners of The Trailhead outdoor store. Get a sneak peak at the store here and then go stop by!
Katie wraps up her sustainability series this month, writing about The Importance of Good Design to Sustainability.
On the kayaking front, we had some better-than-expected flows in the whitewater park this winter... check out this video from of freestyling on the new LoDo Wave.

The flakes are falling in Buena Vista, but the Pucketts' home was cozy as could be yesterday when I got the tour. We're so pleased to have Philip, Cindy, Chloe and Josie now officially South Main residents! Take a peak inside their home here.
Despite the fact that the whitewater park is looking pretty cold these days, there were two great BV River Park developments this month. First, the Missed the Boat benefit Concert was a sell-out success and helped raise funds for some finishing touches that will be made to the park this spring.
Additionally, Jed presented South Main's matching funds from our most recent GOCO grant to the town of Buena Vista. Read his letter to the Trustees here, which outlines the history of the park and the incredible community effort behind it.
Finally, co-founder Katie Selby Urban discusses green building in South Main and our adoption of the Energy Star 3.0 certification as the next installment in her sustainability series.
1/1/2011 We are very excited to announce the opening on April 1st of a new retail business at 900 South Main Street! Our friends Keith and Evelyn Baker will be opening 'Mountain Bohemian,' a 'Lifestyle Boutique' which will carry quality clothing, Evelyn's beautiful 'Glassfractions' stained glass, and accessories for river park activities like nature viewing, bouldering and mountain biking.
South Main and BV's second Holiday Art Walk was a big success once again this year. Click here to check out some great photos of the evening.

12/1/2010 The river is frozen over, Monarch Mountain is open, and decorations are appearing throughout the neighborhood... must be December!
On the progress front, South Main Building Company recently completed a pretty innovative interior, which will eventually become one of our Vacation Rentals. Take a photo tour of the beautiful space.
Looking back on November, there were some great local events in town. Eddyline Brewpub's Fall Fest was a fun, family-friendly event benefiting the Boys & Girl's Club. Eddyline also threw a Brewmaster's Autumn Feast featuring a delicious, locally-sourced dinner and beer pairings explained by new brewmaster Scott Kimball.
And jalaBlu, BV's first yoga studio, hosted another very successful workshop, this time with AZ-based instructor Andrew Rivin.
Looking forward, there are some great events coming up, courtesy of South Main's arts community. Beginning tomorrow, December 2nd, shop locally for the holidays at the Fine Art & Craft Emporium in the Clocktower building. Then on December 18th is the Holiday Art Walk, featuring the work of over 16 local artists, free music, hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. Come on out!

Lots of progress and lots of beauty to report from South Main this month. On the construction front, check out this update documenting current progress on 7 homes in the neighborhood.
While September was a great time to enjoy the turning colors of the higher-altitude aspen groves (check out this fall color video of Aspen Ridge, courtesy of The Clocktower Flat), October was the month of the Cottonwood, providing a stunning backdrop for photos in and around South Main.

10/1/2010 There's plenty of other news this month. First, meet the Pucketts, a young family building their new home on South Main Street. In addition to seeing a new Disc Golf Course open in the River Park, BV's first American Bouldering Series competion was held on the 3 public boulders in and around South Main.
It's also harvest season, a great time to buy local food from the Buena Vista Farmer's Market and to take the kids to Guidestone Colorado's Pumpkin Patch Festival, the weekends of October 16th and 23rd.
9/1/2010 The new wave of construction continues on River Park Road, and this month we have an article for you about the the Hoffmans' home at 1000 River Park Road.
It's also mushroom season up here in the mountains. The King Boletus Mushroom Festival introduced many to the edible mushrooms which grow in the mountains just west of town. I was fortunate enough to get my introduction to mushroom foraging from homeowner Scott Johnson.
Finally, The Colorado Mountain Plein Air Painting Festival is coming to South Main and our valley from September 16th-26th.

7/1/2010 A number of freestyle kayaking competitions also take place in June. This year South Main resident and Director of Marketing Dustin Urban took gold at both the Teva Mountain Games in Vail and the FIBArk whitewater festival in Salida. Click here to read Dustin's account of winning FIBArk.
After a month online, our new blog, Live from South Main, has a growing base of content. From macro photos of flowers to articles about Urbanism and Sustainability, we hope you will visit, learn and comment on our blog.
Happy Summer! 6/1/2010 After cool weather and low water, mother nature delivered sun, snow melt and high water just in time for Paddlefest weekend. The 3rd annual BV Pro Rodeo took place on the brand new wave which was constructed this winter. Click here to read and see more. A super fun bouldering competition also took place in and around South Main over the weekend.
We're also excited about the fact that the kids will soon have a new rocks and ropes course to climb around on next to the more-advanced BV Boulder Garden. Many thanks to GOCO, The BV Optimist Club and the Town of BV for making this addition to our parks possible!
After a trip to Europe, Jed and Kennley have been exploring stone splitting as a way to further our efforts to use the granite abundantly available in South Main.
