The historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown Buena Vista is excited to announce an evening of adventurous entertainment with the return of Stories on Stage July 20th.

The Denver based company, was founded in 2000 by Norma Moore, who, along with her husband, actor Randy Moore, performed and directed in the Arts and Letters Live Company in Dallas, Texas in the 1990’s. Norma was an actor at the Dallas Theater Center from 1970 until 1985. Her Stories on Stage Company is made up of professional actors, many of which are or have been connected with the Denver Centre Theater.

This summer they will bring us “Tales of the Outdoors” in which four short stories will fill the summer evening with the wonderful and sometimes dangerous outdoors that we all love. This evening’s stories are great family entertainment and appropriate for children 10 years and up.

Returning to the Orpheum for hersmtmactorscollageflatcogz7 second year is Kathleen Brady, who will read “The Book of Being Lost,” by Sherry Simpson, about a girl who loses herself in the Alaskan woods but finds her talent and imagination.

“A Walk in the Woods” by Bill Bryson is about an armchair outdoorsman who tries the Real Thing and discovers his inner Natural Man. This will be presented (read) by David Ivers.

“Nelson and Star” is by Joseph Marshall III, and is about a Lakota boy who brings honor and survival to his family as he and his horse navigate a dangerous winter journey. This will be read by Mercedes Perez.

“Powder” by Tobias Wolff is about a father and son who confront the dangers of a snowstorm and the impending dissolution of their family with a spirit of adventure. This will be read by Jeffrey Nickelson.

These actors will skillfully draw you into the characters and actions of each story, and  you will live each moment in your mind’s eye. Stories on Stage is “Theater of the Imagination,” and each audience member will receive his or her full reward with laughter and tears, fear and courage, and always great thoughtfulness -- sometimes, all at once!

Tickets for Stories on Stage will be available at both the Buena Vista and Salida Chambers of Commerce as well as at the door the evening of the performance. Admission is $15 for adults; $10 for children 12 and under. Children under 10 years of age are discouraged from attending this performance. For more information call Barbara at 395-8080.
