Trail. It’s a perfect weekend to visit Buena Vista and check out South Main.Buena Vista is the self-proclaimed “Trail Town of the Rockies” (Damascus, Virginia already laid claim to “Trail Town, USA”) and the official, permanent host town of CDTA TrailFest. The CDT is one of several long-distance trails that transit Chaffee County. Chaffee County and TrailFest 2007 is the perfect weekend to experience what living in Buena Vista is all about. Free, guided “Get on the Divide” adventures will let you experience some of the most spectacular mountains, panoramic views and beautiful landscapes on the Trail. You get to choose your mode of transport…hiking, mountaineering, mountain biking, pontoon boat, llama and goat trekking…and the level of difficulty that’s right for you. Arrive on Thursday, check out South Main and the town on Friday, and join in TrailFest on Saturday. Start your day at CDTA Base Camp in scenic McPhelemy Park with a Pancake Breakfast hosted by our Rotary Club. Later visit outdoor booths, see equipment demonstrations, introduce your children to outdoors adventure at Kids AdventureFest (including a supervised climbing wall and kayak paddling tank), and share stories of The CDT wends its way for 3100 miles from Canada to Mexico. It crosses Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico and follows on or near the Continental Divide throughout the journey. The CDTA is the leading non-governmental organization in completing, preserving, and advocating the CDT. Based in Pine, Colorado, the CDTA staff works with state and federal land management agencies, sponsors, and volunteers to ensure the CDT is a resource for generations to follow.
