“I love people and everything that makes them different from each other.” So says Buena Vista photographer Molly Seeling who then continues with, “I love creating portraits that are unique to each client and situation, and trying to do something creative with each shoot to make it more accurately reflect my clients’ personalities. People’s differences are what make them special, not their similarities. I love to see people genuinely interacting with each other, or genuinely experiencing an unforgettable moment.”
A quick visit to Molly’s website immediately gives you the sense of creativity, fun, and elegance that she brings to her art. Molly was raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico, by a career artist and got her start into photography when she was a teenager. She says, “I’ve always loved traveling, and started noticing the people, the colors, and the textures around me on a trip to Russia at age 14. Ever since then, I have felt like I’ve never “really” visited a place unless I fully capture it in photographs, and my camera has followed me throughout Central America and Asia.”
Having purchased Cedar House Photography last year, Molly is among the many young adult small business owners that have chosen to call Buena Vista home. She says, “It’s great to be able to work with friends and families I know, and it’s great when unknown clients become friends. My most successful marketing has been through word of mouth, which would be harder in a large city.” She and her husband, Zach, decided to move to Buena Vista because “the people here are so genuine and friendly. There are so many great locations in which to photograph, so I end up doing a lot of work outside, out of the studio, in gorgeous places that could never be replicated inside.”
When asked about her future outlook for Buena Vista, Molly says, “I think most people in my generation here are excited to watch BV change and progress, although I think we also don’t want to see BV become a bland strip of commercialism. Zach and I always are grateful to see new local businesses opening and we try to support them whenever we can. Our generation is excited about having increased access in the future to more quality products, professional services, and great food. BV is only going to get better!”
Cedar House Photography studio is located at 310 West Main St. It is a fine art portraiture studio specializing in weddings, high school senior photos, babies, children, and families.
